It's amazing how much I got done today so far. I've contacted the rest of my letter of recommendation writers, turned in paperwork for my away rotation in October, turned in a LOR cover letter, returned my radiology book, called to set up an appointment for my senior photo, and renewed my car registration. Got to deliver a baby almost entirely by myself today! I got to participate in 4 vaginal deliveries and partially deliver 2 last Saturday, with the guidance of either my resident or attending, but today was pretty much all me. Survived my first night on call. Started with daily rounds, a day of lectures in the morning, followed by a quick H&P on a laboring patient. Then I went to my 3-hour surgery that ended up being a 6-hour surgery. Just started my OB/GYN rotation. Which means I'll be waking up at ungodly hours again (I need to leave the house by 5:30 AM). I think the background vocals drowned out the soloists at times, but it turned out pretty well for just 2 practices with choreo. We were surprisingly in sync. I wish all 3 of our Gagas were mic'ed but oh well.

My first and, so far, only case of the day got cancelled 'cause the patient's diabetes was poorly controlled; her A1C was over 12 and her blood sugar was in the 300s. And now I am sitting in the staff lounge, literally falling asleep, waiting for my preceptor to come back and get me. This sucks. You remember that leg I wanted to cut off? Well, I finally got to do it! Not only did I get to suction and retract (typical M3 duties) during the surgery, I also got to cut through some muscles and tendons, saw off the bone, suture the fascia, and staple the skin together.
